Have you tasted guava juice?

Here’s a simple preparation of guava juice.

Ingredients: 30 grams over ripe guava, 200 ml boiled water, 15 grams syrup, 2 grams salt (or 2/5 teaspoon).

Instructions to make the juice:  Clean and cut the guava into small pieces.  Blend guava in a small blender, add some boiled water and pour through a sieve.  Add salt, syrup in the juice and mix gently.

Refrigerate before drinking or if you want to drink the juice immediately, put some crushed ice, mix and drink.

At geannhomegarden we have the Guava Apple variety that was grown from seeds.  It’s fast growing and bears fruits on the 3rd year.  Guava apple fruit is round usually 10 cm in diameter.  The flesh is rather hard and usually white in color.  It has many small hard seeds that taste between pears and strawberries.  The fruit has high vitamin C content.

Do you know that Guava is one of the riches sources of dietary fiber?  Guavas serve as excellent laxatives and help in forming bowels, retaining water and clean your intestines & excretory system thoroughly.

Occasionally, my wife cooks sinigang na bangos sa bayabas.  The guava adds unique flavour to sinigang especially when serve hot.  Much enjoyable to eat is when you serve the sinigang with bagoong or patis with Calamansi.

If you feel planting one in your backyard, we have some seedlings available.  Have a nice summer day everyone, cheers.
